World SkiO Championships: second gold medal for Lamov

Andrey Lamov, Russia won his second gold medal of the championships in Norway today, winning the individual Sprint by 4 seconds. Tove Alexandersson, Sweden, who did not compete in the Sprint Relay yesterday, won the women’s race with an impressive 48-second lead.

Lamov, bronze medallist in the European Championships earlier in the season, just kept ahead of European Champion Stanimir Belomazhev, Bulgaria after a few moments’ hesitation towards the end of the race. Today’s bronze medallist was Erik Rost, Sweden, 15 seconds down on the winner.

Home athlete Audhild Bakken Rognstad was the closest to Tove Alexandersson’s time in the women’s race. She was 5 seconds quicker than Sweden’s Josefine Engstrom.

In the Junior World event, Sprint champions were Anine Ahlsand, Norway and Vladislav Kiselev, Russia. Winners in the Youth race (W & M17) were Anna Petrova, Russia and Henning Sjökvist, Sweden, the latter with a remarkable victory margin for a Sprint of 1 minute 49 seconds.

The Championships in Norway have attracted athletes from 24 nations in all. Tomorrow the Long Distance race takes place between 10.00 and 14.15 CET.
