World Rankings update – Daniel Hubmann and Danish women take top spots

Three of four IOF World Rankings lists have new names up top after the World Orienteering Championships competitions in Inverness, Scotland last week.

Daniel Hubmann (SUI) ends the WOC week as the highest ranked athlete in both of the men’s World Rankings, that is both the list for middle/long distance and the sprint list. He headed the sprint list going into the championships and changed places with Olav Lundanes (NOR), now 2nd, on the middle/long list. Other notable advances among the men are Olle Boström (SWE) who advanced from 42nd to 8th place on the middle/long distance list, Lucas Basset (FRA) who advanced from 33rd to 12th spot and Hector Haines (GBR) who broke into the top 20, advancing from 39th spot, on the same list. The men’s sprint list saw lesser movements, but notable is Kristian Jones’ (GBR) advancement from 19th to 11th spot.

Among the women both World Ranking lists see new athletes on top, and they are both Danish. Ida Bobach replaces Tove Alexandersson (SWE) atop the middle/long list and Maja Alm moves from 3rd to 1st place on the sprint list, surpassing both Judith Wyder (SUI) and Tove Alexandersson (SWE). Among the top women notable advances are Catherine Taylor (GBR) from 18th to 8th place , Anne Margrethe Hausken Nordberg (NOR) from 50th to 17th and Merja Rantanen, 47th to 20th, on the middle/long list. Other than the top spot, there were no major changes among the sprint women. Notable however is the fantastic championships by Nadiya Volynska (UKR) who advanced on both lists and is now 11th on the middle/long list and 4th on the sprint list.
