WOC went viral through IOF Digital Team

The new IOF Digital Team made the Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships in Tartu, Estonia, the most visible WOC ever. The team of six persons shared videos, texts and photos on LIVE Orienteering, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and made orienteering visible to millions of orienteering fans all over the world.

At the Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships, the IOF worked with its new Digital Team:

Idea/Vision for the IOF Digital Team
To unite young orienteers with an interest in journalism and media in an IOF Digital Team. The IOF Digital Team will work for the IOF and cover major events as well as World Orienteering Day in social media and on LIVE Orienteering, incorporating text, photo and video. The aim is to include youngsters of varying age, gender and nationality, in order to spread the IOF image in social media from a fresh, young perspective.

The IOF Digital Team worked hard during WOC to engage and entertain people around the world with orienteering. They followed the competitions and highlighted not only winners and medallists. The team also showed global participants and found interesting stories and topics not always connected with the podiums. The digital report below shows the success this team made and that is was a truly well visible WOC both within and outside the orienteering community.

Some key stats:
LIVE Orienteering visitors 88 359
Facebook involvement 2 374 831
Twitter involvement 301 358

Beside the work with the digital channels two workshops were held: One about Future opportunities in orienteering media coverage in cooperation with Jan Kocbach, World of O. And one about running cameras in TV productions with Per Frost and Carl Magnusson from the TV production team.

The IOF Digital Team is a project coordinated by IOF communications officer Malin Fuhr and IOF marketing manager Hans-Jørgen Kvåle.
