Tim Robertson: winner on his new home ground
Tim Robertson has now managed to win a medal at the JWOC Sprint for three years in a row. The Kiwi got his second gold in his new home nation. Since the beginning of the year the final-year junior has been living in Norway.
“I had planned to go to Bergen Sprint Camp at the start of the year. About one month before that I decided to bring my things and move to Norway”, he says. In the Nordic country he has produced great sprint performances this year, but he has for years done extremely well on that distance.
On the way to the gold in this, his last JWOC Sprint, he made some mistakes. But he was also running so fast that, just like last year in Bulgaria, it became a golden day.
He is living in Bærum, just close to Oslo, and sharing a flat with two young and talented seniors, Emil Ahlbäck and Sindre Rønning. All three are running for the Norwegian club Fossum, and the empty room became available when Borger Melsom, also a talented young senior, moved out. It was this empty room that Tim heard about, and suddenly he was in Norway.
Besides his sport Tim works as a physical coach, but he is mainly going for orienteering. “It’s so good to live in Bærum. It’s just a couple of minutes running to the forest, and a short way to the club house and a lot of good training sessions”.
– When will you leave Norway?
“I hope to be here for a long time.”
Also this year he will take part in the senior World Championships, and the Kiwi will run everything except the Long Distance.
Norway has been his base for some months now, but already last autumn he showed power in Norway. He got silver at the open national championship on the ultra-long distance in a very Norwegian terrain with a lot of marshes. Also in the coming days there will be a lot of marshes in the races.
