Several applications to host IOF major events

The IOF has received several major event applications for the 1 January 2014 deadline.

Three federations applied to organise Junior World Orienteering Championships in the year 2017, namely Germany, Finland and Hungary. Applications for World Cup 2017 were received from Switzerland and Finland. World Masters Orienteering Championships 2017 will be organised in conjunction with the World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand.

There was exceptional interest to organise MTB Orienteering World Cup this time with a total of four bids for season 2016; applications were received from France, Lithuania, Poland and Finland. Lithuania also applied to host the World MTB Orienteering Championships and Junior World MTB Orienteering Championships 2017. Another application for WMTBOC and JWMTBOC 2017 was filed by Russia.

In ski orienteering, bids were received from three federations, all applying for 2 or more events during season 2016. Germany applied for World Cup and World Masters Championships, while Bulgaria submitted bids for World Cup and Junior World Championships. Finland submitted applications to host all four events up for bidding: World Cup, European Championships, Junior World Championships and World Masters Championships 2016.
