Norway back in business

The final competition in the World Championships ended with the Norwegian national anthem at the prize-giving.

“In the relay you have to run well”, Mari M. Fasting says. She ran the second leg and gave Anne Margrethe Hausken Nordberg a gap of 99 seconds in front of Denmark out on the last leg.

“And I never looked behind me”, Nordberg says. She and her team-mates Heidi Østlid Bagstevold, who had an excellent race on the first leg, and Mari Fasting could run into a quite clear victory.

For the Norwegians it was a remarkable end to the week. As individuals the team had achieved just two seventh places as the best. For the first time since 1991, Norway had no individual medal. With this last chance the Norwegians were really keen to show that they can do better in the relay than they had performed individually – and they made it!

With the women’s relay over, a fine Championships in Vuokatti and Sotkamo in Finland is over. Next year, Italy is hosting the Championships.
