MTB Orienteering World Cup: Russian double in Middle race

Olga Vinogradova and Anton Foliforov from Russia were the winners of today’s Middle distance race in the final round of the MTBO World Cup on a warm and sunny day at Grândola in south-west Portugal. Leader in the women’s standings, Cecilia Thomasson (Sweden) was second, whilst Tõnis Erm (Estonia) who leads the men’s standings mispunched.

The victory for Vinogradova, 7^th in the World Cup standings before today, was by 20 seconds. The two experienced Finns Marika Hara and Ingrid Stengård were third and fourth. In the men’s race the gap was an impressive 67 seconds for Foliforov, where Krystof Bogar, Czech Republic, took a commendable second place. Luca Dallavalle, Italy was 59 seconds further down in third place.

In the individual World Cup it is a competitor’s best 5 scores from the 8 races that count for the final standings. The last race over Long distance is tomorrow, where the women have 23.9 km (optimal route 32.2 km) with 480 m climb and an estimated winning time of 90 minutes. The equivalent figures for the men are 31.7 km (44.6), 760 m, 110 minutes.
