Jansson – “I have never given up hope”

For more than a year, Helena Jansson has spent much more time in water pools than in the forest. After the first race of the European Championships the Swede was smiling and very happy. “It’s so incredible to be back again”, Jansson says. “I love to take part and be in the team”.

She has showed strength this spring in getting into the Swedish team for the European Championships. She’s really in business again, after last year with only a few competitions in the early part of the year before injuries stopped her running.

She has had surgery on her foot, but there is still some time before she can run as much as she would like to. “I am on my way. Now I am running on two days and then taking one day off, and continuing the same. It’s normally four running training sessions during a week”.

Helena is still doing a lot of running in water pools along with other alternative training. It has been a tough time for the Swede with all the problems. “I have never given up hope of coming back, but I haven’t been certain about it”, she says.

– Is it a plus to be an almost fully educated doctor?

“No, not at all”, laughs the Swede. At the end of the year Jansson will, according to present plans, complete her education as a doctor.

The amount of running is increasing, and Helena is looking forward to the big goal for the year. “That’s to take part in the World Championships, and the Relay is my biggest goal”, she says.
