IOF Council confirms continuation of existing suspension measures

The IOF Council held an extraordinary meeting on 6 March 2026 to consider the effects of the suspensions of the member federations of Belarus and Russia, as well as the scope of the IOF Independent Athlete System, following updated recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding the participation of youth athletes in international events.

After thorough discussions, the Council made a majority decision not to introduce any changes to the current measures related to the suspensions at this time. This decision was in line with a recommendation received from the IOF Athletes Commission.

During the meeting, the Council also expressed concern about the situation in the Middle East affecting several Member Federations and agreed to continue monitoring developments closely, including any potential recommendations from the IOC for the Olympic Movement.
