First round of the Sprint Relay World Cup goes to Sweden
In an exciting Sprint Relay held at Fredriksten in Halden, Norway, Sweden took an early lead in the 2015 Sprint Relay World Cup. Denmark finished second and Switzerland third. The full points list for the Sprint Relay World Cup can be found on the Overall World Cup 2015 page. Helena Jansson brought Sweden into a winning position on the last leg with a victory margin of 21 seconds.
Sweden’s team of Lilian Forsgren, William Lind, Jonas Leandersson and Helena Jansson ran very consistently throughout. Denmark can thank Emma Klingenberg, who put in a fantastic last-leg run to bring the team up from ninth to second of the teams counting at the finish (only the leading team per nation). Switzerland was among the leading group at the final changeover and ended third. Great Britain will be particularly pleased to take fifth place in a strong field.
For Helena Jansson this was a particularly pleasing performance after her foot injury problems – see article in ‘Around the Arena’, accessed from the lower part of the Home page.
Tomorrow this World Cup round continues with an individual Sprint in Lysekil, just over the border in Sweden. The WOC 2016 organising team are in charge of this race as well as Sunday’s Middle Distance race in Munkedal.
