Dominican Republic prepares for Championships despite fear of hurricanes

First Hurricane Irma and now Hurricane Maria will not stop the Central American and Caribbean Orienteering Championships from taking place as planned 27 September-1 October. The Championships will see orienteers from Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti, Colombia, Costa Rica, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic taking part.

Before the Championships, a conference will take place where each country will present how the development of the Orienteering is working, this to coordinate actions that help all to advance more quickly. The II Congress of COCACAO will also be held, chaired by Secretary General Alby Aguilar and the IOF Regional Coordinator, José Ángel Nieto Poblete, promoter of the Confederation.

The competition and activities coordinated by the IOF Regional Coordinator are organised by the Orienteering Dominican Federation (FEDOMO), with its President Martin Quezada, who with a good team also is developing orienteering throughout the country within the school environment. The Dominican Republic was the latest country in the region to join the IOF (2016).
