Challenging race at the World Military Ski Orienteering Championships
Ski Orienteering had the priviledge to be part of the 52nd CISM World Military Ski Championships in Sodankylä, Finland. Countries had sent their best teams, and there were several world champions on the middle distance starting line.
Fastest of all in the women’s class was Tatiana Rvacheva, who was very satisfied with the victory. “Tatiana Vlasova [2nd] is such a good cross country skier that it was great to beat her today. It was an interesting course with high hills and many cross country skiing tracks, so it was physically very tough. But there were also many route choices, and some short cuts, so I had to be concentrating 100 % all the time”, Rvacheva says, and continues: “There was especially one leg that was extremely challenging. It was a very long leg, and we climbed up to the level of the alpine ski tracks. Inhad to fight to keep up the speed, but at the same time I had to remember that I still had most of the course in front of me, and I should not use all my power there.”
Tatiana Vlasova, Russia, finished second, and Daisy Kudre, Estonia, third.
Men’s race was equally of very high quality. Ski orienteering legend, 17-fold World Champion, Eduard Khrennikov mastered the race fastest, and took home yet another victory at the military races. Stanimir Belomazhev from Bulgaria finished second, and Tero Linnainmaa from Finland third.
