Annika Billstam’s next route choice

Last week was special for Annika Billstam in several ways: She was again among the three best in the Orienteering World Cup overall – but she also started to work full time!

The 37-year-old Swede became World Champion on the long distance in 2011. This weekend she finished a new great international season with being third overall in the World Cup. The race in the centre of Baden may have been her last race on the international scene. “I am not sure about the future yet”, she says.

Billstam has been looking forward to getting to use her education. Now she is planning environmental infrastructure with new buildings and city landscape. Full-time work and top-level international career in orienteering may be difficult to combine. “But there is a possibility to reduce the working amount if I want to. At the moment I am not sure what I will do – my thoughts are about 50/50 for and against continuing my career”, Annika says.
