Ski Orienteering World Cup: First individual race declared void

A serious problem with the batch of electronic punching devices used by competitors in the first World Cup race at Ylläs, Finland, an individual race over Middle distance, resulted in the race being declared void. For reasons not yet fully ascertained, 60-70% of the devices being used by the athletes went down during the competition, and it was found not to be possible to verify that all competitors had completed the course correctly.

The decision to declare the race void was taken by the organisers in conjunction with all the national team leaders at the evening Team Leaders’ Meeting.

A new batch of devices has been obtained in time for the second race in this round, the Mixed Sprint Relay. The first individual race of the World Cup will now be the Long distance event on Friday.
