“Now I have won them all”

For years Josefine Engstrom has been one of the best in the world, but she was missing one world title – the Long Distance. The Swede won today by a margin of 36 seconds to Mira Kaskinen.

“My best race ever? No, I made a mistake, but it was still a very good race for me. And it means so much to get this title. Now I have won all the world titles in ski orienteering”, she smiles.

Sprint winner Tove Alexandersson had in fact a better time, but she disqualified herself when she reached the finish. “I didn’t see a big track and as a result I went into a forbidden area. Not so nice to make such a mistake – the only time I made a mistake during the race”.

The winner grew up in Alfta but is now living in Stockholm, not the most snowy place in Sweden, but there are a lot of training camps and also snow from time to time in the Swedish capital.

She is combining sport with an 80 per cent job as a teacher. «It’s good to have something more than sport, and the money is also needed”, she says.
