Men’s Sprint Final: Jerker Lysell takes gold

An intense and exciting men’s final ended with a win for home athlete Jerker Lysell, who was 2.8 seconds faster than Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland in the finish. Another well-known Swiss star, Daniel Hubmann, took the bronze medal.

A very challenging course with many complex route choices tested the skills of the finalists to the full, not least in the very early part of the course. As with the women, there was a map exchange in the arena a little before the half-way point. Frederic Tranchand, France and Andrey Khramov, Russia were two of the fastest in this earlier section, but both finished outside the top six.

Jerker Lysell had nine other finalists starting after him, so he had a bit of a wait in the leader’s chair on stage before first Matthias Kyburz and then last starter Daniel Hubmann, straining themselves to the utmost, just failed to match Lysell’s time. Last year’s champion Jonas Leandersson finished in fifth place.

Full official results can be found on IOF Eventor, and many other aspects of the races and the maps with courses can be viewed or linked to on the event website

Tomorrow the same arena in Strömstad will be in use again for the Sprint Relay, which starts at 1650 CET. Watch it on IOF LiveCenter!
