European MTBO Championships Long Distance: second gold for Foliforov

Anton Foliforov, Russia is now Long Distance as well as Middle Distance Champion, winning today by a margin of 1.29. Emily Benham, Great Britain is the new Women’s Long Distance Champion with victory by 20 seconds.

Emily Benham, World Cup winner overall last year, completed the gruelling race today in 1:42:11 with Middle Distance and Sprint Relay Champion Gaelle Barlet taking the silver medal. In third place was another member of the strong French team, Hana Garde, 59 seconds down on the winning time.

Jussi Laurila, Finland was the rider who got closest to Anton Foliforov, 1.29 down on the winning time of 1:44:18. Baptiste Fuchs, France, after 4th place in both Sprint and Middle races, managed the bronze medal this time, 2.30 down on Foliforov.

For both of the Junior Championships Long Distance winners, this was their second individual win of the week. Lou Denaix, France won by 0.44 today and is also Sprint Champion; Sauli Pietikainen, Finland won the Middle as well today’s race, today with a margin of 1.51.

The Championships end tomorrow with the Relay.
